Tantalum is an extremly rare metal with atomic number 73. The annual world production of tantalum is just a few hundered tons, compared to almost 3100 tons of gold. It has several industrial uses, mainly in electrotechnology and medicine. Tantalum has a very high melting point (3017 °C), the third highest of all metals after tungsten and rhenium. Tantalum carbide has a melting point of 3993 °C, one of the highest melting points of all known substances. Below 4.3 °K tantalum becomes a superconductor. Pure tantalum is a very chemically resistant metal, extremely stable against corrosion and all kinds of acids, even aqua regia. The tantalum ingot has the element symbol and some of the chemical properties of tantalum laser-engraved on one side, although the engraving is weaker in places (especially the "a" of "Ta"). Shipping costs are 6.99 Euro within Germany, 16.49 Euro with the EU and Switzerland, and 24.99 Euro worldwide. For multiple purchases we combine shipping. Please allow 1 to 2 business days for shipment since we have to retrieve the items from our warehouse first.
